Caribbean countries advised to take IP rights serious

  1. It's time we in the Caribbean join in the awareness campaign to educate our people of the vital importance of protecting and preserving the intellectual property rights of the creative forces and of the benefits economically, culturally and socially deriving from same. Since back in the '90s a leading activist (Dr.Keith Nurse-Trinidad) wrote an article about the economical lost to the Caribbean region due in part to un-documentation and piracy to the artists.
Country that do not take serious steps to implement IP rights are let out of many benefits such as foreign investments solely because companies feel unprotected. Revenue deriving from IP rights is substantial and it's time Caribbean policy makers educate themselves of such benefits.
